Luis Fermin Capitan Vallvey

BSc/PhD in Chemistry from University of Granada, Spain in 1973/1976. Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Granada since 1973. Currently, he is Emeritus Professor at the University of Granada. In 1983 founded the research group Solid Phase Spectrometry (FQM 118 of the JA) whose interest was focused in the synthesis of new reagents and strategies for optical methods of chemical analysis mainly using a variety of solid phases as support for different analytical operations as well as the design of optical sensors. In 2000 we founded the interdisciplinary group ECsens together with Prof. Palma López from the Department of Electronics and Computer Technology; group that actually includes chemists, physicists and electronic and computer engineers.

His current interests in research are focused on the design and characterization of optical sensors, microfluidic devices and portable instrumentation with applications in various fields such as biomedicine, environment, and agrifood, with special dedication to the use in chemical analysis of widely distributed devices such as smartphones and tablets in conjunction with printed sensors.
This interdisciplinary group ECsens currently has more than 20 researchers from the fields of Chemistry, Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology and in its field 11 Doctoral Theses have been addressed and there are 4 Doctoral Thesis projects under its supervision.

As a brief summary of the work carried out, it is worth highlighting the publication of 379 research articles, of which 230 are in journals of the first quartile, 6 books, 27 book chapters, having supervised 31 Doctoral Theses and being a co-inventor of 9 patents. Its H index according to Google Scholar is 45 with 7711 cites up to now. He has participated in 35 research projects of European, national and regional funding of which in 20 has been Principal Investigator as well as in 13 teacher research projects. He has also participated and directed numerous technological research projects (26) and collaboration with companies (89).

He currently has six six-year research, one knowledge transfer, six five-year teaching and five regional ones.
